Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

Please phone us, email or visit us in person so we can arrange a suitable time.

Are you preferred providers?

Preferred Provider

Yes! We are Medibank Preferred Providers and BUPA Members’ Choice. We also provide HICAPS on-the-spot claims for all health funds.

What do I need to bring to the first appointment?

We will ask you to fill in a Patient Information Form so It would be helpful to note any medications you are taking and any medical conditions. Payment is expected on the day, but we do offer HICAPS so if you have private health insurance that covers dental treatment, remember to bring your card and we can make the claim on the spot.

What happens at the first appointment?

Please come a few minutes before your appointment to fill in a Patient Info Form. Your dentist will discuss any medical/dental concerns with you, and check all your teeth, gums and mouth, and sometimes take x-rays. Treatment options will be discussed, then your teeth are cleaned and polished so you leave feeling fresh! If you have a particular concern or pain that can be treated on the day, your dentist can work on that area first and continue the full checkup and clean at a later visit.

How much will it cost?

Please contact us by phone, email or in person for a quote. If you have private health insurance, the out-of-pocket cost will depend on your level of cover. We can provide item numbers so you can check with your insurance company.

When should children start visiting the dentist?

2-3 year old toddlers usually have a full set of baby teeth (although some children develop teeth faster or slower). This is a good age to start bringing children to the dentist – perhaps when you have your next checkup – so they can get used to the environment. We can offer a fun ride on the chair, and do a check-up and clean if they choose. Baby molars are not replaced until around 12 years old, so it is still very important to look after them and develop healthy habits from a young age!

What does an “Accredited Dental Practice” mean?

Our practice has been awarded Accreditation by QIP (Quality Innovation Performance, the independent accreditation provider of the dental industry). This means we have been evaluated and comply with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. We are committed to providing an excellent standard of care at Brighter Smiles, with patient safety and service a top priority.
