Lockdown and Dental Services Update

Due to the current lockdown in Victoria, the Australian Dental Association and Victorian State Government have confirmed that the services we are able to provide during the lockdown are limited to urgent dental treatments. Unfortunately, all non-urgent dental services must be immediately postponed until at least Friday 4th June (subject to changes in the duration of the lockdown).

 Urgent dental care is allowed if you are suffering Dental Trauma, Swelling (face/jaw/gum region), Facial Trauma or Continuous and Substantial Pain.

 All urgent dental services will be provided by our Mitcham clinic – please call us on 8813 4916 to discuss your symptoms and to book your appointment. If you have experienced any Covid-19 symptoms please notify us when you call so we can discuss options.

 If you currently have an appointment booked between now and 3rd June you will contacted soon by our receptionist to reschedule. Our Ringwood clinic will be closed and not seeing patients during the lockdown period – however you can call Ringwood to reschedule or discuss non-urgent appointments.

Easter & Your Teeth

Easter is upon us. It’s a wonderful time to be with family and friends as well as enjoy delicious chocolate Easter eggs, bunnies and more!

Adults and children will be enjoying lots of chocolate and other sweet treats this weekend. Just remember to use moderation and to take care of your and your family’s teeth - brushing is important!

Here’s some top tips to care for teeth while indulging in Easter treats:

• Have a sugar break the week before and the week after Easter, just to offset the sugar hits;

• Try to restrict sweet treats to meal times, rather than snacking on them between meals;

• Ensure children do not snack on sugary treats over a long period of time, as this prolongs the length of time that teeth are exposed to acid attacks;

• Chocolate is not the only culprit. Avoid the following snacks that are marketed as ‘healthy’ but in fact are high in sugar and get stuck in children’s teeth, leading to acid attacks which cause decay:

  • Dried fruit, biscuits (sweet and savoury), fruit juice, muesli bars, crackers, breakfast cereals, flavoured milk, sweetened yoghurt, fruit bars, fruit slice, flavoured popcorn;

  • canned fruit, baked goods (cakes) and banana bread;

• Ensure children brush their teeth well twice a day – don’t skip the important bedtime brushing; and

• Give children attractive alternatives such as toys, books or games – there are many other ways to have fun during Easter that do not involve only sweets.

Welcome Back Sue Ann!

The team at Brighter Smiles are excited to see so many of our patients now able to return to regular visits.

We want to welcome back our long standing loyal patient and MKR 2020 contestant, Sue Ann. With restrictions easing it’s good to see her again.

ONLY 10 more weeks until Christmas.

Victoria, we are going to get out of this lockdown and celebrate a normal Christmas… JUST 2 new cases today, YAY!!!  

Here at Brighter Smiles we are not operating as "normal" yet, but we can now see you for your long awaited check up and cleans, and treat any other smile issues you may have.

We still have to ask all the COVID questions, routinely clean the premises, cover up with PPE and use lots of hand sanitiser!

Routine Checkups & Cleans

Thank you Victoria, for all your hard work!! Victoria’s COVID numbers are coming down and our restrictions are easing, slowly! After Daniel Andrews' update today, the news gets even better. The Australian Dental Association has declared that not only can we perform Non-Urgent dental treatment, but we can now include your routine check up AND cleans!!

We know your regular 6 monthly check up and clean is well overdue so please call us now to make your appointment. However, remember that the virus has not yet been eradicated so we will still need to ask you questions to make sure you are symptom free and that you have not been in contact with any active cases. We are doing all we can to keep you and our team safe while we work to take care of your dental health.

Brighter Smiles Family Dental Care is STILL OPEN to provide dental health services for you and your family during Victoria’s Level 4 restrictions.
